　　鉴于钢丝绳的重要性，安全、正确地装卸、运输、保管、使用和定期检查是十分必要的。
装卸 　
请务必通过起重设备或滑板轻轻装卸；
严禁以钢丝绳表面作为杠杆的支点移动轴上的钢丝绳；
请勿在有尖硬杂物之处滚动钢丝绳；
请按正确的方向缠绕或放绳。
存放
请在干燥、通风、防雨、防潮的仓库内存放并垫上枕木；
必须室外存放时，须涂好保护油脂，并垫上枕木，遮盖防雨布（罩）；
使用过的钢丝绳存放时，须将附着的泥沙清理干净并涂上新油。
使用
使用新的钢丝绳应先低速跑合；
如果可能，使用前对钢丝绳预拉伸，可提高寿命；
特别应防止过负荷、超速运转并防止冲击和振动；
应严格执行设计标准选用、使用、维护钢丝绳；
应定期对钢丝绳检查并记录：
－使用期限、磨损情况、断丝情况、腐蚀程度、油脂情况
－外形破坏及其它异常情况
－连接部位和末端连接是否可靠
应定期报废、更换钢丝绳

结构：股数及每股内钢丝数和钢丝排列方式，如西鲁式、填充式、瓦林吞式或其它结构
直径：单位用"毫米"或"英寸"
长度：所需的每轴或每卷长度
绳芯：是纤维芯（FC），包括天然纤维芯（NF）和合成纤维芯（SC）；或钢芯，包括钢丝绳芯（IWRC）和钢丝股芯（IWS）
捻向：右交互（RHRL）、右同向（RHLL）、左交互（LHRL）、左同向（LHLL）
钢丝抗拉强度：确定是牛/毫米2（兆帕）或公斤/毫米2
润滑：是无油的，还是轻涂油或重涂油
标准：是执行中国标准、国际标准化组织标准、德国标准、英国标准、日本标准或其它标准。
包装：是木轮还是软包装（麻布或塑料薄膜）
用途：如钻井、吊车、矿山、一般工程等
